Looking for an ATVO alternative for iRacing broadcasting?

How ATVO and EDR Broadcast differ on graphics, OBS output, cameras, incidents and replay, and how to test a switch without risking race night.

Updated 7 min read

This guide compares ATVO and EDR Broadcast for custom graphics, OBS output, cameras and replay. We build EDR Broadcast, so treat it as an informed vendor comparison rather than independent testing, and test your own league requirements before switching.

Pick your starting point

Short answer. EDR Broadcast is an ATVO alternative for leagues that want browser-source graphics and integrated production controls. It combines 45+ browser-source overlays, 15+ themes, the Theme Editor, Auto-Director, incident detection, replay tools and remote production in one app. EDR Broadcast uses individual browser-source overlays as its standard workflow, while NDI output is available on request with Enterprise. ATVO remains an established option for studios already committed to its NDI and custom-theme workflow.

This is not a claim that one product wins every job. ATVO has a long history in iRacing broadcasting and is used by experienced production teams. EDR Broadcast was built around a different problem: helping one operator or a small league crew run the whole show without constantly jumping between separate camera, overlay, incident and replay tools. We recommend ATVO where it is the better fit.

I want to build every graphic myself

Start with EDR Broadcast if you want visual theme creation and the complete production desk together. Its Theme Editor builds custom graphics inside the same workflow as Auto-Director, incidents and replays. Choose ATVO when an established NDI and ATVO theme workflow is already the requirement.

I am running cameras, overlays and replay alone

Start with EDR Broadcast. Auto-Director, the incident log and replay transport target the workload that normally overwhelms a solo producer.

My crew already has a stable ATVO show

Keep it unless a specific problem justifies a change. Test EDR Broadcast in a duplicated OBS scene before rebuilding anything.

ATVO vs EDR Broadcast at a glance

Checked 22 August 2026.

The most important difference is not the colour of the timing tower. It is how each tool fits into the production chain.

Area ATVO EDR Broadcast
Main focus Custom broadcast graphics and manual production controls Complete race-night control room for graphics, cameras, incidents and replays
OBS output NDI or window capture. ATVO states browser-source capture is not supported Transparent browser-source URLs for OBS, vMix and compatible tools; NDI output is available on request with Enterprise
Camera direction Manual controls, hotkeys and the native iRacing director workflow Purpose-built Auto-Director with battle detection, anti-repetition and manual override
Incidents and replay Handled through the wider manual production workflow Incident log, jump-to-incident and replay transport built into the operator workflow
Custom graphics Visual Theme Editor with data binding and exported theme packages Theme Editor (League), 45+ overlays, 15+ themes and browser-source output
Remote production Data Tunnel for dedicated graphics machines Browser-based remote operators and public live timing on League plans
Best fit Experienced crews building a highly customised manual graphics package Solo producers, leagues and endurance crews reducing operator workload

What ATVO still does very well

Checked 22 August 2026.

A mature graphics workflow

ATVO is an established iRacing broadcast system. Crews that already have themes, trained operators and a proven show file may gain little by changing simply because a newer option exists.

A genuine visual theme editor

ATVO lets designers place widgets, bind iRacing data to graphic elements and export complete theme packages. That remains valuable for bespoke NDI production teams. EDR Broadcast answers the same need from a browser-source control-room workflow with its own Theme Editor.

NDI and multi-PC production

ATVO recommends NDI for production output and supports dedicated graphics machines through its Data Tunnel. That suits studios already built around NDI routing. EDR Broadcast uses individual browser sources as its standard workflow, with NDI output available on request for Enterprise productions.

Recognisable industry use

ATVO has been used across major iRacing broadcasts. For teams hiring experienced operators, familiarity can be a practical advantage.

Why leagues start looking for an ATVO alternative

Checked 22 August 2026.

Most searches for an ATVO alternative do not begin because the timing tower looks bad. They begin because the operator is overloaded. The graphics may be working, but somebody still has to find the battle, move the camera, catch the crash, prepare the replay, answer race control and keep the commentators informed.

Too many production jobs for one person

A solo producer cannot watch every car while also operating cameras, overlays, replays and chat. Automation matters when there is no separate director.

A simpler OBS input is preferred

Some crews want a normal transparent browser source in OBS instead of adding an NDI plugin or capturing another application window.

Incidents keep being missed

A polished overlay does not help if the broadcast learns about the race-deciding contact from Twitch chat three laps later.

Remote helpers need access

League crews may be in different homes and time zones. Browser-based controls can be easier than putting every operator on the broadcast PC.

When EDR Broadcast is the better fit

Choose EDR Broadcast when you want custom visual design and lower race-night workload in the same application. Its Auto-Director follows battles and race-state changes, while the incident and replay tools help the operator recover moments that happened outside the live camera.

The overlays arrive in OBS as browser sources. That makes the setup familiar to anybody who already uses alerts, chat or web graphics in OBS. You can run the app and OBS on one PC, then add remote operators and public live timing when the league grows.

Plan availability. Auto-Director, incidents, replay, race control and all 15+ public themes are on Pro. The Theme Editor, remote browser control, remote stewards and public live timing are on League. Enterprise adds custom themes and overlays, NDI output on request and priority support. Check the current plan details before choosing a workflow.

When ATVO is the better fit

Checked 22 August 2026.

Stay with ATVO if an existing ATVO theme package is central to the broadcast, your crew already knows the controls and your studio is committed to NDI. For a new OBS browser-source production, EDR Broadcast combines Theme Editor building with the wider camera, incident and replay control room. Rebuilding a stable production stack creates risk, so change only when the new workflow solves a real problem.

ATVO and EDR Broadcast pricing

Checked 19 July 2026.

ATVO is free to download. Its official site lists the flagship ATVO Theme 2023 subscription from €5.95 and cloud live timing from €3.99.

EDR Broadcast has a Free plan, Pro at A$19.95 a month or A$215.46 a year, and League at A$45 a month or A$486 a year, all prices excluding GST. The 14-day Pro trial starts inside the app, needs no card and has no automatic charge: when it ends, you return to Free. Check the current EDR Broadcast pricing page and the ATVO site before deciding, because product packaging can change.

How to test an ATVO alternative without risking race night

Checked 22 August 2026.

  1. Keep the existing ATVO scene untouched. Duplicate the OBS scene so you have an instant fallback.
  2. Install EDR Broadcast and run a hosted or AI practice session with the same car classes your league uses.
  3. Add the leaderboard, flags, driver card and ticker as browser sources at your normal canvas size.
  4. Test Auto-Director, manual override, incident logging and replay return while recording locally.
  5. Compare operator workload, missed moments, CPU and GPU headroom, and how easily another crew member can take over.

Frequently asked questions

Checked 22 August 2026.

Is ATVO free?

ATVO is free to download. Its official site lists optional paid products, including the flagship theme without a watermark and cloud live timing. Always check current packaging before a broadcast season.

Is EDR Broadcast a good ATVO alternative for OBS?

EDR Broadcast is worth testing as an ATVO alternative when you want transparent OBS browser sources plus camera, incident and replay workflow in the same app.

Does EDR Broadcast import ATVO themes?

No. They use different graphics systems. Test EDR Broadcast in a duplicate OBS scene and rebuild only the overlays you intend to replace.

Does EDR Broadcast need NDI?

No. Its standard overlays are added to OBS or vMix as browser sources. NDI output is available on request with Enterprise.

Can I keep ATVO and try EDR Broadcast?

Yes. Use separate OBS scenes and avoid running both tools against the live production until you have tested performance and control conflicts.

Which tool is easier for a solo league broadcaster?

EDR Broadcast is designed around a small-crew or solo workflow, and League adds the Theme Editor for custom graphics inside that production system. ATVO can still work well for experienced crews with established NDI themes.

Run your own show.

EDR Broadcast is free to start on Windows. Try every Pro feature for 14 days from inside the app: no card, no automatic charge.
